Q: Why should I choose a cosmetic dentist who has been accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry over a non-accredited dentist?

A: Accreditation is given only to those cosmetic dentists who pass a rigorous test of their aesthetic skills and who display a marked interest in constantly learning new techniques and procedures and incorporating new technologies. Many dentists who offer cosmetic procedures have only the most basic required knowledge and training to perform these procedures, but those accredited by the AACD have advanced training and have proven their dedication to the art and skill of cosmetic dentistry.

Q: How many office visits will it take to improve my smile?

A: That will depend on the extent of the smile makeover you need. Some procedures can be completed in a single office visit; some can even be completed in under an hour. Most can be completed within a visit or two. There are some procedures, however, that can require several trips to Dr. Ziv's office, from the initial consultation to your final smile. Q: How long will my new smile last?

A: Again, this will depend on which procedures you undergo, the overall health of your mouth, and your diligence in your dental hygiene. However, dental technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, and many materials currently used by Dr. Ziv are actually stronger than your natural teeth. With proper care, your restorations should last many, many years.

Q: What is laser dentistry, and how does the DIAGNOdent® work?

A: At our Agoura Hills practice, close to Calabasas and Woodland Hills, Dr. Ziv utilizes the DIAGNOdent®® laser tool for the earliest detection of cavities and decay possible. The DIAGNOdent®® detects the formation of decay by measuring the laser fluorescence reflected back to the device by the laser. When there is more decay, more laser fluorescence is reflected back, and our dentist is able to determine the extent of the decay.

Dr. Ziv also uses the diode laser, which can be used for corrective procedures such as sculpting the gum tissue to eliminate “gummy” smiles.
